The
Maleny Veterinary Clinic in Beech Street is the old Masonic Temple.
Originally called Dunlop Lodge in honour of Francis Dunlop, who donated
the land in Beech Street, on which the Lodge was the built. It was the
first of its kind on the Blackall Range, costing 425 pounds.
The
Temple was constructed either during or just after World War One.
Inside,
the building is constructed of Beech wood, a very high quality timber,
generally reserved for fine furniture. The outside is built of hard
wood.
Since
the transformation of the Lodge into a Veterinary Practice in the late
1960's, where the Practice moved from Maple Street, some alterations
have taken place. These include the erection of internal walls/rooms
both up stairs and down stairs, the inclusion of windows on the lower
half of the top level, downstairs was also re-stumped and enclosed with
kennels and toilets.
In
more recent years, the walkway has been covered; a bitumen driveway
and car park have been built allowing wheel chair access, and improved
parking. Over
the years, a range of native plants have been planted around the building.
