Million Paws Walk a Great Success!
The Maleny Million Paws Walk last Sunday was a great success. The sun shone as a huge crowd gathered with their pets at Maleny Veterinary Services for registration before the Walk start. What a variety of beautiful and exotic pets! We had dogs of every size wearing some very fetching outfits, horses big and small, miniature cattle, beef cattle, alpacas, lots of goats, a buffalo, a pair of very brave rats and a cockatoo.
The Maleny Light Horse Brigade led the hundreds of people and pets down Maple Street to the Showgrounds. The large dog contingent was led by two huskies pulling a modified sled. Next followed the individual horses then goats and cattle with the Maleny High School Show cattle ending the procession.
Once there, Dada Ratnadevananda opened with an animal blessing, which reminded us of the importance of the day in raising funds for the RSPCA and aid them in their fight against animal cruelty. Then the fun of the competitions began! Best Dressed Dogs, Cleverest Pets, Cutest Pets, Healthiest Pets and more. The Best Smooch of the Day went to the very friendly buffalo! The Pistol Packing Pug! was one of the Best Dressed winners.
Lots more entertainment was provided by The Pine Rivers Flyball Team and their Flying Dogs, alpaca stalls, dog breeder stalls, Special Friends hydrobath, the very handsome Maleny High School Cattle and the extremely cute miniature animals of Storybook Farm.
Local support is always very much appreciated and a big thank you to all those wonderful people who join us every year and make the Walk possible. Thankyou to the Maleny Show Society, the SES, The Pine Rivers Flyball Club, The Maleny Light Horse Brigade, The Range News, The Apex Club and Ananada River School, Special Friends Hydrobath, Merryl Fookes and Pam Walker for their alapaca display, Mal and Margaret Thompson, Jeff and Paul Reed, Betty Martin, Amanda with the Pointers, The Melting Pot Toy Store, Steven Hamilton Photography and to Caitlin and Shima for providing the PA and to Bernard for running it!
A special thankyou to the teachers and kids from the Maleny High School Agricultural Department who not only went to a great deal of trouble to bring some of their prize winning cattle but who have also raised $100.00 donation to the RSPCA. A fabulous effort guys!!
See Everyone Next Year!!
