As of 1 September 2015, Maleny Veterinary Services no longer offers 7-day accounts or payment plans for our services.
This was a difficult decision for us, given that we pride ourselves on being able to offer help to people and animals in need. Previously, we were fortunate enough to be able to offer these terms to people who have found themselves unable to meet the costs of the pet’s health care at the time of service. Unfortunately, an increasing number of people have not felt obliged to stand by the agreements that were put in place in good faith. The cost of pursuing the outstanding money is large, in addition to the initial time and resources that went into their pet’s care.
We do, however, understand that the cost of health care is rising and that emergencies and illnesses happen that are not budgeted for. As pet owners and veterinary carers, we all need to be able to continue to provide the standard of care that pets are worthy of.
Maleny Vet Services has made the decision to stop offering accounts now that we have found a suitable alternative. VetPay is a business that is designed to help people pay for their pet’s veterinary care. It allows treatment to be given when necessary, and owners to pay the costs off over time.
Maleny Vet Services staff are able to apply for you online at the clinic and get an instant approval amount, or you may wish to apply online yourself with a pre-approved amount. (This pre-approval is valid for three months, and you have no obligation to spend the amount approved). Please visit their website www.vetpay.com.au for more information regarding this service.
This service is also available for our large animal clients (horses and cattle etc) whose trading terms are now payment at the time of invoice. New clients may be asked for a deposit before attending their property.
It is important to remember that very few insurance companies pay veterinary accounts directly. Almost all require evidence of full payment before they reimburse money to owners.
Please note that credit terms for our long-standing primary production clients who have existing accounts for multiple visits and drug purchases in any calendar month, remain the same.
We trust that our stance on this matter will not surprise anyone. We are all responsible for our ability to appropriately care for our animals. We believe that this approach will enable us to continue to keep fees for our services reasonable, plus give owners the ability to responsibly care for their pets.
