Emergency Veterinary Care for Maleny and Surrounds
When your pet is unwell or injured, it can be frightening and overwhelming. At Maleny Vet Services, our team is here to provide calm, compassionate and prompt care, and to guide you clearly through what to do next. This page explains what to do if your pet needs emergency care during opening hours, and also how to access after-hours emergency support.
If your animal is experiencing an emergency
For emergencies within clinic hours (8:30am to 5:30pm):
If you are bringing in an animal that is experiencing an emergency, please try to give us advanced warning by phoning 5494 3622 if it is safe for you to do so. Even a few minutes prior notice allows us time to free-up staff and prepare resources to ensure your animal can be treated as quickly and efficiently as possible once you arrive.
For emergencies after-hours (5:30pm to 7:30am):
Maleny Vet Services has a veterinarian on-call outside our regular opening hours, almost every day of the year. Please note, we kindly ask our clients to ensure they only phone the after-hours service for true emergency situations.
Emergencies During Opening Hours
If your pet requires urgent care during our normal opening hours, please call the practice on 5494 3622 as soon as possible before coming in. Calling ahead allows our team to:
- Prepare the treatment room and equipment
- Allocate a veterinarian immediately
- Provide you with urgent first-aid advice if needed
- Reduce waiting time on arrival
If you arrive without calling first, we will still do our best to help, but phoning ahead ensures your pet receives the fastest possible care.

Emergency Care After-Hours
Maleny Vet Services provides an after-hours on-call service primarily for our regular clients, but our rostered vet may also be available to see other animals in the district depending on their case load on any given night. It is important to note that our vets do not stay in the practice overnight, they are on-call from their homes and will travel in to meet you at the clinic or on your farm if appropriate.
If your pet experiences an emergency outside of our regular opening hours, please phone number 07 5494 3622 and you will be provided instructions to connect to our on-call veterinarian, where available. Please note:
- After-hours care is for urgent emergencies only
- Availability may be limited depending on the vet’s case load
- Additional after-hours fees will apply
While we do try to offer the service every day of the year, there are some occasions when we don’t have staff available. In the rare instances when none of our vets are available after-hours, our voicemail message will direct you to try to contact one of the alternative emergency services below.
