Camelid Services FAQs
Do camels and alpacas need special veterinary care?
Yes. They have digestive systems and behaviour that differ from sheep and cattle, and benefit from regular check-ups, parasite control, and husbandry advice to maintain health.
When should I see a vet for my alpaca or camel?
Please contact us if you notice changes in behaviour, appetite, breathing, movement, or if you’re concerned about pregnancy, neonatal care or vaccination. Routine health checks are recommended.
Do alpacas and camels need vaccinations?
Alpacas may benefit from protection against tetanus and other common clostridial diseases. The exact schedule depends on your location and herd history – talk to us for a personalised plan.
Can camels and alpacas live together?
While both are camelids, management should consider each species’ behaviour, social needs and diet. We can help you assess compatibility and welfare requirements.
How do I tell if my animal is sick?
Changes in eating habits, weight, behaviour, posture or waste patterns warrant a vet evaluation. Alpacas in particular can mask illness, so early detection is important.
We are open seven days a week so if you have any questions, please give us a call on 5494 3622 or book online!
