Expert equine veterinary care, tailored to health, performance and wellbeing

Our equine care services
Preventative health and wellness
Routine examinations, tailored vaccination programs and parasite control are essential to keeping your horse fit and resilient. We offer on-property preventative care, including:
- Vaccinations including Hendra and 2-in-1 boosters
- Regular wellness exams to monitor condition and overall health
- Faecal and blood diagnostics to proactively detect issues early
Important Note: Hendra virus poses a serious risk to both horses and humans in parts of Southeast Queensland. We strongly recommend regular Hendra vaccination to protect your horse and ensure our team can treat any illness without delay. Maleny Vet Services adheres to a strict Hendra Policy that requires horses to be up-to-date with vaccination – or be brought up-to-date by our vets – for our team to attend to their care.
Dental and oral care
Dental health is critical for proper eating, performance and comfort. Our vets use a PowerFloat, which is an electric tool with a small, thin head that allows our vets to work in both the front and back of the mouth easily. A PowerFloat dental is generally quicker so requires less time in the mouth, and is much more comfortable for the horse. In Australia, PowerFloat dentals may only be legally performed by registered veterinarians.
Each dental visit includes:
- Brief examination
- Sedation for horse comfort
- PowerFloat dental
Diagnostics and investigations
Because early detection often leads to better outcomes, we offer:
- Blood testing and analyses
- Fecal and parasite profiling
- Other field diagnostics to help uncover underlying issues
Emergency after-hours care
When urgent issues arise, we provide on-property emergency veterinary support during business hours.
Subject to availability, Maleny Vet Services also provides an after-hours on-call service primarily for our regular clients, but our rostered vet may also be available to see other animals in the district depending on their case load on any given night. Attendance for non-regular horse clients is at the discretion of the attending veterinarian.
If you have an animal that requires urgent care, please see our Emergency Care page.
Annual health packages
To simplify your horse’s preventative care, we offer structured annual packages that align vaccinations, dental checks and routine exams – helping reduce call-out and travel costs.
Packages can be tailored so that vaccination and dental dates dovetail sensibly with your horse’s needs and schedule. However, it is important that vaccinations are not pushed back so far the horse isn’t covered. For this reason, if you are interested in an Annual Health Package we kindly ask that you call us so we can work out a plan to gradually synchronise vaccination and dental dates, if necessary.
It is also important to note that if your vet has recommended that your horse receive dental work more frequently than once annually, you should still maintain the schedule as advised by them. An annual health package includes:
- Examination
- Sedation for horse comfort
- PowerFloat dental
- Hendra vaccination
- 2-in-1 vaccination
- Optional faecal egg counts
