At Maleny Vets, we know how much your furry friend means to you – and we want to help keep them safe. That’s where microchipping comes in! Microchipping is a simple, permanent way to make sure your pet can be identified if they ever wander off. It’s quick, low‑stress and done during a regular visit with one of our team.

What is microchipping?
A microchip is a tiny implant (about the size of a grain of rice) placed just under your pet’s skin. It carries a unique ID code that links to your contact details in a national database. If your pet goes missing and is found by another clinic or shelter, that chip can help bring them safely back home.
Why it matters
- Microchipping is compulsory for cats and dogs on the Sunshine Coast, mandated under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008. Failure to do so may result in a fine.
- Ideally, pets should be microchipped before they are 12 weeks old, if ownership changes, or if they are considered a regulated dog.
- Microchips stay with your pet for life, even if collars or tags are lost.
- If you ever move house or change your phone number, you can easily update your details on the registry so your pet stays connected to you.
An early investment keeps them ‘locatable’ for life!

Veterinary care in the comfort of home
Some pets would rather skip the car ride, the waiting room and the whole “where are we going?!” situation. Our veterinary home visits bring experienced, compassionate care straight to your door, so your pet can be examined in familiar surroundings – on their favourite rug, in their own backyard, or wherever they feel safest. It’s thoughtful, personalised care with a whole lot less stress (for everyone). Read more about the benefits of home visits here >
