Veterinarian – Fixed Term

  • Full-time
  • Mixed or smallies only
  • 4-day work week
  • Stunning Sunshine Coast Hinterland

We’re looking for an experienced vet to jump into our team for a 9(ish) month fixed-term contract starting in July 2026, while one of our staff vets is on leave. We’re a mixed practice by nature, but our wonderfully collaborative vets are flexible so if you’d prefer small animal only, that’s completely fine. The role can be shaped to suit the right person.

What your week will look like

You’ll be joining a friendly team of 6 brilliant vets, 10 super nurses and a genuinely great support crew, working across a varied and interesting caseload.

For those interested in mixed work, it’s roughly 80/20 small to large animal. If you’d rather stick to small animals, your week will reflect that.

  • You’ll practice the highest quality veterinary medicine
  • You’ll enjoy a mix of consulting, surgery, diagnostics and (if mixed) field work
  • You’ll share a 1 in 5 solo weekend roster
  • You’ll be on-call overnight an average of one night per week

We aim to keep things manageable. You’ll be supported and won’t be left to figure things out on your own.

The kind of person who fits well here

  • Eligible to practice in Queensland
  • Comfortable working independently when needed
  • Communicates well with both clients and colleagues
  • Enjoys being part of a particularly good-humoured, welcoming team

While we’re curious to see your CV, we’re particularly interested to learn about how you approach your work and the people around you.

What you’ll get in return

  • A genuine 4-day work week
  • A supportive, experienced team who work well together
  • A well-equipped practice (dental machines, ultrasound, IDEXX lab, Vetscan Imagyst, tonometer, etc)
  • Competitive salary + allowances + active on-call commission
  • Flexibility around working hours – we are a family-owned small business, so we are particularly empathetic to the competing needs of work versus personal life
  • A balanced lifestyle to enjoying living and working in one of the most picturesque parts of Australia

Where you’ll be working (and living!)

Maleny is one of those places people visit… and then don’t want to leave. This is a town where lifestyle comes first. Think gourmet cafés, local markets, lush rainforest walks and a strong creative and farming community – all just a short drive down the hill to the spectacular beaches of the Sunshine Coast. It’s a wonderful place to settle into, whether you’re staying short-term or longer.

If it sounds like a good fit

Send your CV or a quick email to Edwina at manager@malenyvet.com.au. If you have questions or would prefer an informal chat first, you’re very welcome to get in touch.

The best team doing the best job!
